Redundancy the Musical...

If your stuck as to what to do this week check out Redundancy the Musical, an indie pop opera by my good friend Naomi Lowde. It starts on Tuesday at the Hen and Chickens Theatre. The Friday and Saturday performances have already sold out, but there still tickets for the week night shows, so get on it....

5min break with Bo at The Book Club...

Last Thursday I went to the launch of Raarr, which will be on at The Book Club until 25th Feburary. It was a great night and I also managed to squeeze in a quick interview with Art Curator and Illustrator Jason Kerley.

What do you like best about being an Art Curator at The Book Club? Being a problem solver, as a bar environment has certain limitations, but at the same time the shows are also multidisciplinary, so I get to work with a wide range of different mediums and the crowds are more fun.

With your own illustration what would you say your style is? I have an automatic style of drawing which is fluid and based around structures.

If you were a biscuit what would you be? A pink wafer, as they are hard to come by, but when you do it's like meeting an old friend at a party.

Looks like I have a night of entertainment to look forward too...

Well tonight is shaping up to be an interesting mix of art and dancing, as I'm also attending a press night at The Brickhouse for the 'Sinner Saint Burlesque'. The show 'The Sacred and Profane' channels the aesthetic of old world beauty and glamour, whilst fusing modern theatre and culture to create titillating and uplifting cabaret entertainment...

Raarr!

When Never work with children or animals they say... Well, new exhibition Raarr, opening this Thursday at The Book club has broken those two golden rules. Twenty two illustrators have been specially commissioned to draw a reptile, bird, mammal, amphibian, fish or insect of their choosing... These headless wonders will then be passed onto twenty two eager children who will complete the drawings. I'll be going along with a guest blogger Imogen (who will be helping me do a write and interview of one or more the artists)...

Hackey WickED Festival 2011...

My first assignment for Rooms Magazine, was to take some photos of Hackney WickED Festival 2011, which celebrated the work of the hundreds of local artists and galleries in East London. As well as the art, there were cinematic events, live music, fetes, markets and food stalls. With the fantastic weather and alternative clusters of happy arty people the festival vibe was excellent and it reminded me of the grittiness of Shoreditch before it became urber cool ...

Turning the world upside down...

On the weekend I managed to fit in the Anish Kapoor exhibition 'turning the world upside down' at Kensington Gardens (catch it before it ends on the 11 March 2011). I found the contempory stainless-steel works interesting, like some the park's local residents...

Snow White and the Seven Poofs...

A fantastic adults only pantomime from the team that produced Sinderfella last year. Snow White & The Seven Poofs was hilarious with a modern twist, feel good party anthems, terrific acting, delicious festive campery and all set in the cosy basement of Leicester Square theatre. Make sure you see it before it ends...PS not for the prude hearted!

Crypt-mas...

This week I went the opening night of a free alternative Christmas art experience held in St Pancreas church crypt by Illumini. Once inside this historical subterranean labyrinth the walls were lit with bright colourful projections, flying skulls, illuminating artworks and there was even a robotic Santa. During the course of the evening, there was performers working with light, including illuminating juggling, dancers and light shows. Ho ho ho!

Popcorn Club Cabaret...

A few of us ventured into the world of Popcorn Cabaret on Friday and the show was a showdown of alternative comedy heightened by theatrical splendour. It was ab entertaining variety of skilled and stunning acts, closely netted with the hearty world of circus, pyrotechnics and laced with eclectic arrangements. I will definitely go to another one of there events again...

Jazz, Neve Campbell and free Pizza...

Last night I went Mau Mau Bar in Notting Hill and checked out Jazz Refreshed featuring world-renowned singer Julie Dexter. Her performance was stunning, the venue rustic and cute, even if a little to warm, but better than the howling rain outside!

Also spotted at this gig was Canadian actress Neve Campbell (infamous for her role on the hit TV series 'Party of Five'). She was very busy texting on her phone all night (perhaps sending out updates on twitter about how good the tunes were?). After the gig on the tube we met the lovely Andrea from the Bayswater Domino's Pizza branch who kindly donated us her self made piece of art. It was the tastiest takeaway pizza, so thank you Andrea! 

Saatchi Gallery

My adventures on Friday lead me to the Saatchi Gallery (If you haven't been go!). One of my favourite exhibitions was Richard Wilson's holographic field. Viewed from the entrance platform at first you see a polished floor, then realise it's an infinite clear pool of oil, that clinically absorbs and mirrors the gallery architecture. 

Levis Shape What's To Come Event...

The event was hosted by Annie Mac to promote a web platform being launched on Monday. It started with a panel discussion where six entrepreneurial women talked about how they set up there businesses, without losing there creative passion along the way. Followed by an acoustic set from the Noisettes before they jet off to Malawi.

It was a very inspiring evening, I met some lovely peps, got to see a and to top it all off there was free wine! A great way to spend my Tuesday night, so thanks Anna, Em and Levis for the invite.

 

Japanese neo pop invades the Palace of Versailles...

Takashi Murakami’s massive manga-inspired sculptures at the Versailles Château is something I'm going to head, while stopping in Paris for a spot of shopping. His monumental sculptures and brightly colored paintings are on display until 12 December 2010…
